ZAGREB - CITY OF HOPE I want to breathe.
I want to feel the sun again. I want to dream. I want to embrace nature. I want to fall asleep at night without fear, to have sweet dreams. I want to welcome the new day with hope. I want to be safe. I want to live humanely. I want to live this life together with all living things. I want to be free. I decided to start a new life for all these needs. And Zagreb, I came. Will you meet me? Can you make room for me in your city? Can you share your city with me? Would you let me call my luck? Would you hope for me too? How about a new harmony, harmony with me? Do we walk together on the road of life? Zagreb, the capital and busiest city of Croatia, listened to me, listened to me for a long time, trying to understand how I was stuck in the dark, my despair and longing for the light. It has not forgotten its past suffering and struggle for freedom, so it was able to empathize. It made me feel that it was by my side to clear my darkness and find the light again, like the April rain, which gives life to the crops about to dry. Zagreb, which consists of the upper city (Gornji grad) and the lower city (Donji grad), gave me a place in its bosom, regardless of my status and of being a woman. It gave me the opportunity to live my self. Ban Jelačić Square, the center of the city, whispered that I am safe and advised me to meet people. It enveloped me in the climate of tolerance that I missed. Touring the stalls in Dolac Market, one of the most colorful places in the city, touring Bogovićeva Street, spending time in King Tomislav Square showed me that we can live together and our hearts beat as one. Oh o Ilica Street... Ilica Street's side by side buildings that remind of shoulder to shoulder solidarity, its warm-blooded sincere atmosphere, its colorful people... I always move and smile on my face as I walk down this street. On this street, I met friends who are loving, sincere, hopeful, have a high vitality and embrace everyone. The Croatian National Theater and museums helped me to know this city in a cultural, artistic and historical integrity. I found peace in Maksimir Park, Bundek Park and the lake with the natural beauties where I realized that I was breathing, I listened and renewed myself in the depths of the greenery. The more I met the people of this city, the better I got to know its places, the more I loved it, the more I loved it, the more I got connected and clung to life. My hopes were revived. My effort has increased. Zagreb is more than a city from my window. My home, I hope to cure my troubles and not to give up my tomorrow. The impact of recent events (earthquakes, Covid-19) we have experienced will make these bonds stronger and more important than ever. Our love for each other, our unexpected compassion and sensitivity will heal us. We will walk through life together. And everything will be better. |
I Zagrebe, došla sam. Hoćeš li me upoznati? Možeš li napraviti mjesta za mene u svom gradu? Možemo li imati novi sklad, sklad sa mnom? Hodamo li zajedno putem života? Zagreb, glavni i najprometniji grad Hrvatske, slušao me, dugo me slušao, pokušavajući razumjeti kako sam bila zaglavljena u mraku, shvatiti moj očaj i čežnju za svjetlom. Ah, a Ilica… Ilica i njezine zgrade u nizu poslagane kao rame uz rame, podsjećaju me na solidarnost, njezina toplokrvna iskrena atmosfera, živopisni ljudi…
